The place is, indeed, amazing.
When Cafe Ish is closed, I wept because I thought I would never get to try their famous soft shell crab omelet. But food god hears my prayers and Josh & Ai open Milk Bar by Cafe Ish! The place is only about 5 mins walk from Redfern station, and by now you can spot it easily because they already have the signage. When I paid them a visit, the only signage was '$5 Cheeseburger' stuck on the glass, which is already very eye-catching.
I went there with an old friend for a small celebration, and the place is still quiet at that time. There are some milk crates and mini tables in front, provided for lining customers if it's full house. The randomness of the furniture makes the place interesting, and they also have a juke box and a table with game arcade. Apparently the highest scorer of the game will get some kind of reward, it's malteser tart last time I heard.

The fun continues with pretty and delicious looking dessert display, along with candy and lolly jars lining up next to it. Give me few hours in this place and I'll have fun by myself with these stuffs.

I usually avoid milkshake as I am not really good at dealing with something really milky, but this time is an exception. It turned out, this is probably the only milkshake that I will gladly have anytime, any day. This super choc milkshake (chocolate ice cream, Lindt chocolate sauce and Milo) is honestly the best milkshake I've ever had; so rich and creamy and there isn't any milky aftertaste that I hate. Instead, I ended up gritting the Milo powder and wishing there's more of it.

Soft shell crab omelet is one of the most popular menu from Cafe Ish, and thankfully they bring this hero back on the menu. The whole omelet will cost you $24 (which is really worth it), but there's a smaller option if you want to save some room for other must-haves: crab and a cone. It's the miniature of the infamous omelet, flanked with a cone of chunky chips and served on a cute little board.
It is, indeed, a killer dish. The omelet layer itself is quite thin, but it envelops the crunchy and tasty soft shell crab perfectly, and I would never guess that I'd enjoy slices of avocado in an omelet like this. The sauce on top is tangy, especially if you squirt some lime juice, but complement the whole package. And I've always love chips added on my meal.

Ai's freaking awesome chicken wings fits the name, and with the zingy vinegar and shallot sauce, it's a match made in heaven. Albeit not really chunky, the wings are perfectly seasoned and wonderfully crunchy. We ordered this to share but I reckon I can shove down a whole portion.

Stella opted for the $5 cheeseburger, with no additional topping. I didn't get a bite, but I reckon it's really good. The beef patty still has a beautiful pink hue in the middle, and the smell is really appetizing.

I would definitely come back, I am yet to try the cheeseburger and the desserts and they also have an awesome looking malteser tart! In this case, revisit(s) is a must.
We didn't have dessert at the Milk Bar, so we made our way to QVB-Westfield area to wander around and do some window eating (it's like window sopping but with food, you know). And so we gleefully found Moochi shop in Westfield, which hasn't been long opened for business.

The store is dominated with black and bright pink theme, simple but eye-catching. The topping selections are typical; vary from fresh fruits to sweet treats. They have four kinds of froyo offeres: plain, pomegranate, watermelon, and biscotti. I was mulling between pomegranate and watermelon, before finally deciding on pomegranate froyo with fresh pomegranate, mango, and watermelon.
I'm such a genius, I must say. Really love the sweet-sour froyo although I didn't really taste the pomegranate flavour, but the toppings combination hits the spot. The combination of sweetness and sourness of this dessert makes this froyo a great way to end the meet-up.

I am completely happy to finally get a taste of the awesomeness of the Milk Bar by Cafe Ish, but having Moochi froyo again soon is also very tempting!

ReplyDeleteit is YUM alright! :))
DeleteI was extremely disappointed by Milk Bar by Cafe Ish. I was completely shocked by the service we received from Josh (the chef and owner)
ReplyDeleteAs we could see food on the service counter, we waited eagerly and patiently to be served, we were appalled when Josh cocked/tilted his head back, motioning us to collect our own food.
He clearly wasn't too happy when he had to serve us himself, he dumped our plates onto our table and proceeded to roll his eyes.
I wasn't aware Milk Bar by Cafe Ish was a "self-service" cafe, seeing as though we were greeted by wait staff.
We were absolutely disgusted and shocked by this kind of service. Never coming back here again, so please be warned when you pay a visit.
Despite this terrible service, the food does live up to its' reviews, but in my opinion it is not worth going, so to speak it left a bad taste in my mouth.
His retaliation can be seen on his twitter, which further confirms his bad attitude on:

Other patrons have also had the misfortune of meeting Josh and his foul attitude at Cafe ish:
